MoveMe Dance have been connecting people with the joys of dance and performance since 2011. MoveMe is a not-for-profit, creative dance company founded and led by Artistic Director Bert Roman. Originally funded by Arts Council England, Bert created MoveMe with a vision of “everyone can dance” and with a genuine desire to use dance to improve the mental, physical and social well-being of others.
Our mission on earth is to bring the incredible diversity of our communities together through the power of DANCE!
MoveMe stages participatory dance events best described as a ‘dance class, meets party’. Fun is a key attribute of our dance events, but they bring much more; they bring people together!
Whatever generation, whatever ability, whatever educational, cultural or social background, everyone dances together.
MoveMe delivers dance across three core areas, these are; public events, the community and corporate. That’s why you’ll find us at family festivals, in local schools and staff Christmas parties.
Our events turn spectators into performers, using a storytelling method to take the audience on a journey through an irresistible music track. Professional dancers teach a routine and once the learning is over the event erupts with shared fun, achievement and movement.
It is a communal, yet structured activity designed to make dance accessible for both participant and spectator, in a ‘can do’, pressure free, motivational way. Because of this, our activity appeals to a wide range of audiences, from young mums and their babies to business directors.
To date MoveMe Dance has worked with many collaborators including: Barbican Centre London, Dance Woking, Lakes Alive, Dancin’ Oxford, Birmingham Hippodrome, MAC, BEFestival, Big Dance, Birmingham Dance Hub and Fuse Festival/Medway Council. We have engaged over 15,000 spectators/participants across the country.
In 2016 we developed MoveMe Studio as we partnered with Octopus and Islington Council (north London community programme). Throughout 2017 we have been running multiple studio and live programmes around north London and beyond.
This year has also seen MoveMe be commissioned by Islington Council for their inaugural Arts & Estates project and a new partnership established with Newham Council.
